We love the first summers, although they’re not the best
I’ve been through many of them, yet this one has shown itself to be the best
So far so good, we say,
But no,
I treat it as the only one.
So often so hot, so rainy and furious with storms of accumulations of energy and drops
And we, listening to it as we should,
As if called to life
In us, close and attentive like River Shannon, longingly flowing
Before dissolving in the Atlantic Ocean,
Like River Barrow, one of the Three Sisters, taking its time,
Like us.
Lovingly, and slowly so many days,
So many rains, so many lakes, so many rivers
Canoes with us, and we moving with them
So many oars, so many shores we did not mean to reach,
We let it go the way River Suir lets go of the hills,
So this is the best one, we say again,
Not because it didn’t last, but because it did.
So long.

What a beautiful poem! Thank you for sharing it. Thank you for writing it in the first place!
