Hugo lived with his dad, Mr. Cesar. One sunny afternoon, Hugo was playing with his toy cars when he suddenly stopped and looked up at his dad.
“Dad, why can’t we call Grandpa?” the boy asked with a puzzled look.
Mr. Cesar put down his phone and smiled. He walked over to Hugo and sat down next to him.
“You see, Hugo,” Mr. Cesar began, “Grandpa had an operation to make him better, but it has made him very weak for now. He needs lots of rest to get his strength back. If we call him, it might disturb his rest and slow down his recovery.”
Hugo thought for a moment. He loved his Grandpa and wanted to do something special for him.
“Is there anything we can do to help him feel better, Dad?” he asked eagerly.
Mr. Cesar’s eyes twinkled with an idea. “Yes, there is, Hugo! Grandpa loves your drawings. How about we paint a special picture for him? When he’s feeling a bit stronger, we can show it to him. It will surely make him smile and help him feel better.”
Hugo’s face lit up with excitement. He ran to get his paints, brushes, and a big sheet of paper. Mr. Cesar helped him set up a little painting station at the kitchen table.
“What should we paint, Dad?” Hugo asked, dipping his brush into a bright blue colour.
“Let’s paint something Grandpa loves,” Mr. Cesar suggested. “Maybe a beautiful garden with all the flowers Grandma has in her garden.”
Hugo nodded enthusiastically and started to paint. He carefully added tall sunflowers, colourful tulips, and sweet-smelling roses. He even painted a little bench where Grandpa could sit and enjoy the flowers.
Mr. Cesar joined in, painting fluffy white clouds in the sky and a big shining sun. They laughed and talked about all the fun times they had spent in Grandpa’s garden.
When they finished, Hugo stepped back to admire their work. The picture was bright and cheerful, full of life and colour.
“Grandpa is going to love this!” Hugo said proudly.
Mr. Cesar smiled and gave his son a big hug. “I’m sure he will, Hugo. This picture is full of love, and that’s the best medicine for Grandpa right now.”
They carefully set the painting aside to dry. Over the next few days, whenever Hugo missed Grandpa, he would add a little more detail to the picture, making it even more special.
Finally, the day came when Grandpa was feeling a bit stronger. Mr. Cesar and Hugo went to visit him with their beautiful painting. Grandpa’s eyes lit up with joy when he saw the picture.
“This is the best gift ever,” Grandpa said, his voice filled with happiness. “Thank you, Hugo. This will help me get better faster.”
Hugo beamed with pride and gave Grandpa a gentle hug. He knew that while they couldn’t call Grandpa to talk, their special painting had spoken a thousand words of love and care.
And from that day on, whenever Grandpa looked at the painting, he felt a little bit stronger, knowing that Hugo and Mr. Cesar were always thinking of him.
