Two fabulous poems …… I must try and remember them.

“Being forgotten is also pleasant.”

okay but that’s such a sneaky relief of a sentence. like setting a thing down and realizing you’re allowed to walk away. quiet, kind, and a little mischievous.

The Bach anecdote tucked in the middle really underscores what this whole thing is about. The market stall moment isn't just trivia, it's kinda central to the piece's argument about how we treat art temporally. Ran into something similar reading about the art market in 18th century France, where whole artist categoreis just evaporated from collective consciousness for decades. What gets me is that it's not random, there's actual mechanisms behind collective forgetting that we're still figuring out today.
